Composition

Arranging and Composition

(offered alternate years)
MUS 259 (3 credits)
Introduction to writing and arranging music based on traditional models. Topics include: standard notational practices, writing melodies, countermelodies, harmonization, instrumentation and scoring.

University Theory

Music Theory I and II

A study of "common practice" harmony, including elementary analysis with preliminary discussion of elements of formal contrapuntal writing and choral texture.

Aural and Keyboard Skills I and II

(MWF 12:05-12:55) each year
MUS 152-153 (1.5 credits each term)
The aural perception of materials covered in MUS 155-156 through the practice of sight-singing, dictation and keyboard harmony.
