Performance Ensembles - Handbell

The handbell programme at Concordia includes several ensembles which make use of a six-octave set of Malmark Handbells, a five-octave set of Malmark Handchimes, and a five-octave set of Whitechapel Handbells.

The original set of Malmark handbells were part of a project by the Concordia Guild in 2000. The expansion to six-octaves and to include chimes were part of a grant through the Alberta Foundation for the Arts. The set of Whitechapel bells was acquired in 2005 from the estate of Arthur and Mabel Guinness of Victoria, B.C. Originally purchased in 1958, this would be one of the first five-octave sets of Whitechapel bells to be bought in Canada.

The Concordia Ringers, Jorgianne Talbot, is designed for university students at Concordia. Along with Encore, a student-led ensemble, this group performs each semester and includes a short tour in its yearly activities.  

Jubiloso! Bells of Concordia is a community-based, auditioned ensemble, directed by Dr. John Hooper. 

In addition, an alumni ensemble is in its formative stages.

The summer program, Singspiration, includes opportunities for children and adults to learn about handbell ringing.
