(Arthur) Barry Bromley was born in LaFleche, Saskatchewan, and moved to Edmonton with his family in 1949, where he attended elementary and junior high school at King Edward Park. The family moved to Calgary in 1958 when a job opportunity at SAIT arose for his father to teach electricity, which he did for many years. Barry's musical ability came though his Dad, Art Bromley, who enjoyed playing banjo and piano in a dance band with friends.

Barry had begun taking piano lessons at the age of seven, and by the time he started attending William Aberhart High School in Calgary and got his driver's license, he traveled to Strathmore each Saturday to teach piano to 16 students. Barry was saving money to buy a grand piano.

He followed his love of music and was accepted by the University of Calgary into the Music program where he studied piano and earned his Performer's Associate Diploma from the Western Board of Music and graduated with a Bachelor of Music in 1966. The following year he received his ARCT from the Toronto Conservatory. He applied and was accepted to the Master of Music program at the University of Oregon in Eugene. After a summer session at the U of O, Barry continued with a year of study in Oldenburg, Germany where he continued his piano studies with Franz Peter Goebels. It was during this time that he met Connie Balko from Wisconsin, also a student in the study group. After a three-month engagement, the two were married in August of 1968.

Barry wished to continue his education towards a Doctorate degree, so in the summer of 1969, he and Connie returned to Eugene, Oregon, where Barry completed his Masters Degree and continued on toward a Doctorate of Musical Arts in 1972.

In 1973, Barry learned that Concordia College in Edmonton was seeking a music teacher/choir director. The thought of teaching at a small, Christian institution appealed to him. He interviewed for the position and began his work at Concordia in the fall of 1973. In 1988, Dr. Bromley along with community musicians founded the Concordia Symphony Orchestra and he served as its artistic director until 2002. Over the years, Barry has continued to teach a variety of musical subjects including choral music and piano. At present, Dr. Bromley teaches piano, piano pedagogy, music theory, and aural skills.

He has performed, composed, conducted, and adjudicated for a variety of musical events in North America and Europe, including narrating a series of classical music programs for cable radio, performing recitals in North America and Germany, and writing and conducting music for a Christmas T.V. show.

Barry loves to travel, is an avid reader, and enjoys visiting with friends. He especially enjoys time spent with his three children and two granddaughters. His unassuming nature and his sense of humour have served Barry well during his career.
