Edmonton-born Francis Dunnigan began his music education at the age of 5 as a violin student with Ranald Shean. At the age of 16 he began his professional career of 20 years as a violinist with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Dunnigan holds an Associate Degree in Violin Performance and a B.Ed. From the University of Alberta and a Masters of Music from the University of Oregon. He conducted the University of Alberta Symphony Orchestra during his student years at U. of A. He has studied conducting with Allan McMurray, Frank Battisti, Eugene Corporon and Robert Wagner.
In 2002, Mr. Dunnigan was appointed as artistic director of the Concordia Symphony Orchestra with whom he played viola. He is also the conductor of the Edmonton Catholic Schools All-City Band, Musical Theatre at Festival Place and the Easter pageant "Love According to John," which is performed each season at the Jubilee Auditorium. Music Festival Season is always a busy time as he is the adjudicator and clinician at festivals every spring.
