School of Music Performance Scholarship

The Concordia School of Music is providing an annual scholarship to a distinguished music student who demonstrates exceptional vocal or instrumental performance. This scholarship is established through the endowment of the Concordia School of Music Instructors and Faculty. An amount of $420 tuition credit will be awarded to a student enrolled in the music lessons at the Concordia School of Music. The tuition credit will cover one semester of music lessons in the following school year. Scholarship is awarded solely on the basis of performing achievement and ability. The recipient will be chosen through a performance competition at the end of the winter semester.

To be eligible, an applicant must:

  • submit a current application form signed by the studio teacher. Forms may be obtained at the School of Music
  • be enrolled in music lessons at the Concordia School of Music for both Fall and Winter semesters during the year of application, and is planning to take music lessons in the following school year.
  • achieve a satisfactory academic standing and is enrolled full-time (60% of course load).
  • prepare to perform at least 2 pieces of contrasting styles or historical periods. At least one of these must be from standard concert literature. The performance time should be 10~ 15 minutes in total.

After collecting the application forms, the Scholarship Committee, made up of a panel of music faculty and studio instructors, will make a list of qualified candidates to play in the performance competition. The selection will be based upon the recommendation from the student's studio teacher, the general achievement in the music lessons and the performances from the prior juries. The winner will not receive the same scholarship in the consecutive year but can reapply for the following year. The committee reserves the right not to award the scholarship or hold a performance competition if there are no qualified candidates.
